A Bowl of Happiness
Walandawe,
a village where I, as PM or voluntary teacher, teach and learn for a year.
Walandawe village is one of 8 villages in Routa district, Konawe regency, province
of South East Sulawesi, Indonesia. Not many local people here know where this
name came from since some people still use the old name, Wiwirano. Some people
said Walandawe came from word Landawe means colonizer because it was used for
hiding from colonializm.
For me, walandawe seems like a bowl of happiness. Because
it’s similar with a bowl in the middle of niche valley where you just can see a
relief of green forest which are contrast with the blue sky. In the other side,
people here can be described as happiness creator in the middle of limitation:
signal, electricity, market, or clinic as simple as eating river snail or
o’susu in local language mixed with MSG. Even the village is categorized as
small with 40 families but the diversity here is high, shown from 4 tribes live
together: Tolaki as the indigeneous people, then Bugis, Toraja and Bali. We
also diverse in religion: Islam, Christian, and Hindu. There’s no communication
signal here but luckily we have television channel to connect with the world
outside here.
The transportation here is still being a problem since there’s no
public transportation so we just can deal joining people who wanna leave from
the village, moreover how challenging the road, you can make sure there will be
no one riding when the rain comes since the road will be so much slippery. One
last thing, be ready for the long journey if you are going to the town since
you will need more than 9 hours or due until some days. Remember, there will
always unpredictable thing in Routa.
